Come to one of our events at Shallowford!
Led by Rev Evelyn Bone, guests are gently guided through a reflective day of devotion, quiet time and worship in the peaceful surroundings of Shallowford House.
Quiet Mondays offer space to step away from the busyness of everyday life and enter a slower rhythm of prayer and stillness. Participants are invited to spend time with God in ways that feel natural and life-giving.
During the day there is also the opportunity to meet for one-to-one spiritual direction. Alongside this, a number of prayerful and contemplative activities are available to help deepen reflection and encourage attentiveness to God’s presence.
Whether you come seeking clarity, rest, prayer or simply a moment of spiritual pause, Quiet Mondays provide a welcoming space for reflection and renewal.
This July, step away from the noise and into a space where your hands can make, your mind can slow and your soul can breathe.
Join us for a 3-day Craft Retreat, offering space to explore your innate creativity. Whether you’re experienced or simply curious, this is an invitation to rediscover the quiet joy of creating, surrounded by peaceful grounds, good company and a gentle rhythm.
Leave refreshed, inspired and perhaps a little more connected to the creative gift within you!
Holding Firm is a reflective retreat day designed to create space away from the noise and demands of everyday life, inviting participants to reconnect with the deeper foundations of faith, hope and resilience.
Set within the peaceful surroundings of Shallowford House and the Staffordshire countryside, the day will take the form of a guided reflective walk beginning and ending at Shallowford. Along the way, you’ll be encouraged to slow down, notice the rhythms of creation, and gently explore the things that sustain you when life feels unsettled or uncertain.
Suitable for anyone navigating change, discernment, loss, transition or simply seeking time to pause and reconnect spiritually, Holding Firm offers a supportive and restorative space to rest, reflect and renew.
Waiting can often feel frustrating, uncertain or even unproductive; yet Scripture repeatedly reminds us that God is often at work in the hidden and slower seasons of life.
Waiting Well is a reflective retreat day inviting you to gently explore what it means to wait with intention, trust and openness to God’s presence.
Using whittling and simple creative activities alongside prayer, reflection and conversation, the day offers space to slow down and engage both mind and hands in a meaningful process of reflection.
Participants will leave not only with practical, handmade reminders from the day, but also with renewed perspective and encouragement for the season they are walking through.
Change can sometimes feel exciting, unsettling or difficult to embrace, especially when we sense God inviting us into something new.
Getting Onboard is a reflective retreat day exploring how we recognise, respond to and journey with God through seasons of new beginnings and fresh direction.
Beginning at Shallowford House, the day will take the form of a guided reflective walk starting and finishing in a nearby village.
Through conversation, Scripture, silence and reflection along the way, you will be encouraged to consider where God may be leading you, what may need to be left behind, and how to step forward with faith, courage and openness to change.
A day retreat with Sue Rawlings & Pauline Heffernan:
Nature teaches us that life unfolds in seasons – times of growth, change, renewal and transformation. In much the same way, our own lives continue to shape and reshape the gifts we carry.
This reflective retreat day invites participants to explore how life’s experiences can deepen, refine and reveal the gifts within us.
Suitable for those at any stage of life who wish to reflect on their journey, rediscover the gifts they carry, and explore how these might continue to grow and serve others.

In the season of creation tide this retreat day is offered to those who look to the Christian faith for a response to the challenges of the environment.
The climate crisis can be overwhelming and scary, but throughout the day we will explore some of the resources from our tradition which help us to reconnect with creation as a gift, our role as stewards of the earth, and God’s care for all that God has made.
Focusing on “God the Creator” will be our starting point for thinking about ways to live lightly and faithfully on the earth.
A day retreat with Sue Rawlings & Pauline Heffernan:
The Christian tradition invites us to approach this mystery of death, not with fear, but with hope, trusting in the promise of God’s eternal love.
This reflective retreat day explores how the wisdom of the Christian tradition can help us live well in the present while holding gently the reality of what lies beyond.
The Call Home offers space to reflect on the deeper meaning of life’s journey and to rediscover the hope that lies at the heart of the Christian story.
Suitable for those wishing to reflect on life’s deeper meaning, explore Christian hope in the face of life’s final transition, and engage in thoughtful conversation about faith, legacy and eternal life.

Revisiting the story of Jesus’ birth, this retreat day invites participants to prepare for a simple Christmas which is gentle on the planet and ourselves.
Looking at alternative ways to symbolise and celebrate the world changing significance of God becoming flesh, we will consider letting go of some of the trappings of Christmas which are costly to creation, pockets, and even goodwill, to refocus on the great gift of Good News.
Throughout the year, our Garden Working Party brings together volunteers who share a heart for service, community, and the care of God’s creation. These days are a simple but meaningful way to contribute to the life of Shallowford House, helping to nurture the grounds that so many guests come here to enjoy.
Whether tending flowerbeds, clearing pathways, planting, pruning, or simply lending a helping hand, every task plays a part in maintaining this peaceful place of welcome and retreat. No specialist gardening experience is required – just a willingness to join in and share in the work together.
The Garden Working Party is a wonderful opportunity to build friendships, share conversation, and spend time in the quiet beauty of the Shallowford landscape.
