Come to one of our events at Shallowford!

Quiet-Mondays

Led by Rev Evelyn Bone, guests are gently guided through a reflective day of devotion, quiet time and worship in the peaceful surroundings of Shallowford House.

Quiet Mondays offer space to step away from the busyness of everyday life and enter a slower rhythm of prayer and stillness. Participants are invited to spend time with God in ways that feel natural and life-giving.

During the day there is also the opportunity to meet for one-to-one spiritual direction. Alongside this, a number of prayerful and contemplative activities are available to help deepen reflection and encourage attentiveness to God’s presence.

Whether you come seeking clarity, rest, prayer or simply a moment of spiritual pause, Quiet Mondays provide a welcoming space for reflection and renewal.

A day retreat with Sue Rawlings & Pauline Heffernan:

The Christian tradition invites us to approach this mystery of death, not with fear, but with hope, trusting in the promise of God’s eternal love.

This reflective retreat day explores how the wisdom of the Christian tradition can help us live well in the present while holding gently the reality of what lies beyond.

The Call Home offers space to reflect on the deeper meaning of life’s journey and to rediscover the hope that lies at the heart of the Christian story.

Suitable for those wishing to reflect on life’s deeper meaning, explore Christian hope in the face of life’s final transition, and engage in thoughtful conversation about faith, legacy and eternal life.

Shallowford House in partnership with Candied Appeal:

Revisiting the story of Jesus’ birth, this retreat day invites participants to prepare for a simple Christmas which is gentle on the planet and ourselves.

Looking at alternative ways to symbolise and celebrate the world changing significance of God becoming flesh, we will consider letting go of some of the trappings of Christmas which are costly to creation, pockets, and even goodwill, to refocus on the great gift of Good News.

Enjoy time to create something meaningful to take away; a seasonal reminder of God’s presence, accompanying you through the weeks ahead.

Throughout the year, our Garden Working Party brings together volunteers who share a heart for service, community, and the care of God’s creation. These days are a simple but meaningful way to contribute to the life of Shallowford House, helping to nurture the grounds that so many guests come here to enjoy.

Whether tending flowerbeds, clearing pathways, planting, pruning, or simply lending a helping hand, every task plays a part in maintaining this peaceful place of welcome and retreat. No specialist gardening experience is required – just a willingness to join in and share in the work together.

The Garden Working Party is a wonderful opportunity to build friendships, share conversation, and spend time in the quiet beauty of the Shallowford landscape
